Participants from 30 different nations have registered for the European Conference on Biomethane Fuel which will take place on the 7th, 8th and 9th of September in Göteborg (Sweden). Registrations are still opened. Come and join this major international event on biomethane fuel and on organic waste treatment. The programme is available on www.biogasmax.eu : furthermore the two plenary sessions and the visit tours, four dedicated training sessions will allow participants to go in depth on issues such as production, upgrading, distribution and end-uses.

The « Production » workshop, held on the 8th afternoon, will be moderated by Eric Zinn, from Göteborg Energi (Sweden). Biomethane production and biofertilizer uses from organic materials will be presented by C.M. Pettersson, project manager of the Växtkraft initiative (Vasteras plant). Robert Olsson and Fredrik Brynolf, researchers from Falköping (Sweden) will demonstrate the Biogasmax FK-computer model as a tool aimed to decision makers. Technical background will be given by Ludwig Dinkloh, from UTS Biogastechnik,. Throughout all these presentations, will be investigated the ways to optimise the techniques to enhance the efficiency and to meet the specifications for using biogas in the transport sector. The spatial integration of production and use and institutional aspects will be covered, as well as issues such security of supply.

The other training session occurring meantime will deal with "Infrastructures issues". Introduction of the topic will be made by Peter Boisen, Chairman of the Natural Gas Vehicle Association (NGVA Europe) who has had a long experience in use of natural gas and biogas as a fuel. Professionals daily involved in biomethane will intervene on fields such as filling stations development and operating (T. Ekengren from FordonGas in Sweden and M. Palermo from Lombardy Region in Italy)) and on grid injection (E. Jacobsson from Göteborg Energi in Sweden, Claire Brecq from GdF-Suez in France). The economic and environmental aspects of different solutions will be assessed and compared.

The 3rd and 4th training sessions will be held on the Wednesday morning. The session on "Upgrading issues" will offer the opportunity to give an overview on the different techniques of upgrading (Michael Beil and Uwe Hoffstede, ISET). The managing director of the waste water treatment plant in Bern (Beat Amman from Arabern, Switzerland) will make an encouraging summary of one year experience of the Pressing Swing Absorption (PSA) upgrading unit. And Peter Thulin (COAAB) will present commercial experiences. Issues such as ways of optimising processes, fiscal and taxation conditions and cost-benefits will also be explored by speakers including Arthur Wellinger (Nova Energie), moderator of the session.

In the workshop "End-use issues" will be showed a series of policy measures and schemes aiming at increasing captive and innovative fleet using biogas (environmental requirements into public procurement contracts, incentives and subventions...). The impact on engine performance, fuel consumption and emissions will be investigated. Bjorn Hugosson, who has a 15-year experience in biogas as a vehicle fuel will present the results from the vehicle demonstrations in Biogasmax project (900 vehicles involved, 63 vehicles closely monitored). Experiences on a wide range of vehicles (passengers cars, buses, waste collection trucks) will be presented by professionals involved in different scales of intervention (A. Bonetti from Lombardia Region, D. Fravollini from Roma metropolitan area, L. Magnusson from Sweden, M. Lage for the European perspective).
